Now that I have your attention....

Team Manchester was formed with one slogan… "with Tom Fallon, you can't go far wrong." Surely enough, almost 24 hours later, we actually have something to show for our efforts. It looks pretty, it does near enough what it says on the tin (and even throws in a few SQL errors on top of that for good measure!)

The original idea is quite simple really - let students pick which books are better for a degree - not the lecturer. Coined as a 'social library application' by one of the experts which hovered around (they genuinely were interested), it uses a rating system which is weighted in real-time so students from the same course and same university take a larger say in the content of a book and its relevancy to the end user.

We also use the MOSAIC data provided by several libraries to determine which books were the most withdrawn on your course to give you to the best array of books for your course, at your uni, because obviously not every University is the same (we found that out the hard way!)

It also uses Scribd API to grab any ebooks which are title related.

TL;DR - You tell us which uni you come from and what course you're doing, we tell you which books other students who took your course at your university prefered, and which books are similar to the one you're interested in using MOSAIC.

I've been told to emphasise it's a PROTOTYPE, please treat it nicely.

For a demo please contact a member of the team.

Big up to the Moss Side Marauders! Brap brap!
